Climate change is an increasingly urgent global issue, affecting environmental, economic and social aspects throughout the world. In the last decade, global temperatures have increased significantly, and the impact is being felt in various parts of the world. This phenomenon occurs due to increasing greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation and changes in land use. One of the main challenges of climate change is the increase in the frequency and intensity of natural disasters, such as floods, droughts and storms. According to a World Meteorological Agency (WMO) report, this impact could cause huge economic losses and threaten food security. In the context of Indonesia, which has high biodiversity, climate change also has the potential to destroy unique local habitats and species. Apart from environmental impacts, climate change also affects public health. Rising temperatures can worsen air quality, heighten the risk of infectious diseases, and increase the incidence of respiratory illnesses. To face this challenge, mitigation and adaptation efforts are needed. Mitigation includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while adaptation includes adjusting society to impacts that have already occurred. Sustainable solutions are the key to facing climate change. Investment in renewable energy such as solar and wind power is an important step. Renewable energy can reduce dependence on fossil fuels, which are the main cause of carbon emissions. Additionally, environmentally friendly technologies, such as electric vehicles and energy efficiency, should also be widely adopted. Reforestation and land conservation are also important solutions to deal with climate change. Replanting trees can absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, helping to stabilize the climate. Programs such as Agroforestry, which combines agriculture and forestry, can improve farmers’ welfare while protecting the environment. Community participation in education about climate change is very crucial. Increasing awareness about the impacts of climate change can encourage sustainable behavior, such as reducing waste and using resources efficiently. Additionally, international collaboration in research and technology sharing can accelerate the discovery of solutions. The government also has a vital role in establishing policies that support climate change mitigation. Implementing carbon taxes, incentives for renewable energy, and setting environmental regulations can encourage companies to innovate for sustainability. The courage to take proactive action will be crucial in fighting climate change. Given these complex challenges, the role of individuals and local communities cannot be ignored. Local initiatives such as good waste management, use of public transport and environmental conservation should be encouraged. Collective awareness and action can create a major impact on achieving sustainability goals. Climate resilience must be a priority across all sectors. Investment in research and development of green technology can be a long-term solution. With integrated action from all parties, climate change can be dealt with effectively, so that future generations can enjoy a healthier and more sustainable planet.
