Daily news is a newspaper printed each day, and is usually distributed at breakfast. It can be delivered directly to your room, or you may pick it up at reception.
Founded in 1919 in New York City as the Illustrated Daily News by Joseph Medill Patterson, it was the first successful tabloid in the United States. It attracted readers with sensational coverage of crime, scandal, and violence, lurid photographs, and other entertainment features. It reached its peak circulation in 1947, with 2.4 million copies per day. Today the newspaper is published out of Jersey City, New Jersey and focuses on local news, as well as national and international news. It is the eleventh highest-circulation daily newspaper in the United States. The original Daily News building, an art deco landmark designed by John Mead Howells and Raymond Hood, is now known as Manhattan West and houses the newspaper’s television and radio affiliates.
For years, the Daily News was locked in a battle with its even more sensational rival, the New York Post. Despite its waning circulation in the 21st century, it has maintained its reputation for intense local news coverage and celebrity gossip, as well as comics and sports coverage.
Its editorial stance has long leaned toward conservative populism, although it shifted leftward in the 1970s and is now moderate. It is owned by Tronc, which bought it in 2017 for $1. Ad Fontes Media rates the paper as skewing left in terms of bias and largely reliable/generally trustworthy in terms of reliability.
